Crucifixion

“The cross is not to be relegated to a mere stage on the way to the more triumphant resurrection. Good Friday is not simply the problem for which Easter provides the solution. The participle ‘crucified’ in (1 Cor.) 1:23 and 2:2 appears in the perfect tense in Greek, designating an action that occurs in past time but that has continuing effects for the present. To be sure, the Christ Paul preaches in Corinth has been raised from the dead, but the resurrection does not erase the marks of the crucifixion, as if it were merely an obstacle Jesus has overcome in moving to bigger and better things.
